Tech CEOs don't let there kids use their tech

Steve Jobs did not allow his kids to use the iPad and believed that excessive tech use could potentially harm children's development.

Evan Spiegel, CEO of Snapchat, only allows his children 1.5 hours of screen time a week.

Chamath Palihapitiya, an early Facebook developer and successful tech investor, banned his kids from using the very platforms he helped create.

If many of the tech leaders still developing the platforms we are all addicted to will not use them or especially allow their children to use them, why do we?

US adults are using screens over 7 hours a day. And US teens are on screens over 8 hours a day.

We do not have a loneliness problem or a meaning problem. They are symptoms of our screen problem. We are addicts without a solution. We believe this technology is essential for our daily living, that without it we will be dropped from our community. Ironically, by spending so much time on screens we have degraded community so much that we hardly have one to connect to.

This is where churches can separate themselves: not as anti-tech but certainly a way to develop a life outside of it. Church needs to teach people how to put technology in its proper place as helpful tool rather than its current position as master.
