AI is replacing school quickly

AI is going to change most everything. One thing that I did not expect it to change so quickly was the educational system.

A study was just done that discovered that students with an AI tutor had double the educational efficacy as students with a Harvard professor.

You read that right. A classroom full of nerds learning physics in one of the most esteemed universities in the world is going to absorb less information than if they engaged the same information with AI.

Why would someone pay the outrageous prices of these universities when they can quite literally be better educated for free at home? The debt of education is quite literally crippling the productivity and the ability to participate in the economy for many in Gen X, the Millennials, and now Gen Z. It’s hard to make university make sense when the price since even 2000 is up nearly 200%.

Homeschool is on the rise in America, and it is for a host of reasons. I think the trend really began with the political movements that have been happening in the country. Parents began to distrust that the schools were not pushing a sort of political ideology that they themselves did not approve of.

But with artificial intelligence on the rise, any motivated parent looking to homeschool their child has just been amplified by a large multiple.

I think about my own two boys who will need to begin their educational track soon. As my wife and I have discussed, the largest fear I have with homeschool is that we don’t know enough. School opens children up to teachers with a wide range of ideas and expertise.

But AI is an expert in everything.

And it is a much more efficient teacher than a human.

One of the biggest drawbacks to sending my kids into the public education system is that, in reality, they will spend more time with a teacher over the next 12 years of life than they would with me. Meaning, my kid is going to be influenced by the teachers at a school more than I have a chance to influence them.

Or, maybe influence isn’t even what I am worried about. After the age of 18, I want my kids to go out and change the world. The time I have with them is slipping away from me fast. I only have so much time left to enjoy them. So why would I give so much precious time sending them to a school they won’t necessarily love to get a lower level education than they could receive from an AI tutor?

One of my favorite thinkers said it well in a recent podcast:

Education is changing.

What do you think? Is your experience in public school irreplaceably valuable? Or could homeschool really become a tenable option for more of the country?
